The Ultimate 2-Hour Wedding Photography Timeline

Can you really get enough wedding photos in just two hours?

Absolutely.

For smaller weddings, elopements and simple ceremonies, two hours can cover a surprising amount.

The secret is having a good timeline.

Here’s an example of how we’d structure it.

0:00–0:15 — Arrival + Details

Your photographer arrives before the ceremony to capture the venue, guests arriving and a few little details.

If you want rings, invitations or other details photographed, have them ready to go!

0:15–0:45 — Ceremony

Time to get married!

This gives approximately 30 minutes for the ceremony, including the processional, vows, rings, first kiss and signing.

If you’re planning a longer religious or traditional ceremony, you’ll want to adjust the rest of the timeline accordingly.

0:45–1:05 — Family Photos

Do these immediately after the ceremony while everyone is still together.

Our biggest tip?

Write your family photo list beforehand.

Rather than deciding combinations on the day, your photographer can work straight through the list.

1:05–1:20 — Wedding Party

Now we can grab some photos with your bridesmaids, groomsmen or whoever you’ve chosen to stand beside you.

We love getting a mixture of classic group photos and more relaxed shots.

1:20–2:00 — Couples Portraits

And finally, just the two of you!

Around 30–40 minutes is plenty of time for a beautiful couples portrait session, particularly if everything is happening in the same location.

The Biggest Secret? Keep Everything Close.

If you’ve only booked two hours, you don’t want to spend 25 minutes of it driving between locations.

Choose a ceremony location with somewhere beautiful nearby for portraits and keep your timeline simple.

Two hours won’t suit every wedding.

But if your priority is having the ceremony, the people you love and beautiful portraits professionally captured, you might need a lot less photography coverage than you think.
