Some love stories deserve more than one day.
Sarah and Nick were legally married a year ago, but February 14th marked something just as meaningful. A public celebration. A chance to stand in front of their people and share vows out loud. A delayed wedding party that felt deeply intentional.
Held in vibrant Brunswick, this Valentine’s Day celebration was relaxed, colourful, and beautifully family centred.
Getting Ready in Brunswick
The afternoon began at an Airbnb in Brunswick where Sarah and Nick prepared together in a way that felt natural and completely unstaged.
They made it clear from the beginning that they were not interested in forced or staged moments. And we love that. The best photos always happen when couples are simply being themselves.
The atmosphere was light and calm. Bright colours. Laughter. Family drifting in and out. A true reflection of the tone of the evening to come.
From there, they travelled via tram through Brunswick toward their venue. There is something so Melbourne about hopping on public transport on your wedding day. It felt effortless and real. If the weather plays nice, those in transit moments become some of the most authentic parts of the story.
Vows and Reception at The Foodstore, Brunswick
Their celebration was held at The Foodstore on Weston Street in Brunswick.
The Foodstore is such a fantastic space for cocktail style wedding receptions. DIY friendly. Flexible. Warm. It suited Sarah and Nick perfectly.
This was not a traditional ceremony followed by a sit down reception. This was a gathering. A party. A public declaration of vows in front of the people who have walked alongside them for years.
When they shared their vows, there was a quiet emotional shift in the room. Even though they were already legally married, this moment felt weighty. Honest. Heartfelt.
It was beautiful to witness a couple choosing to reaffirm their commitment in such a visible and joy filled way.
Family First, Always
Sarah and Nick’s celebration was deeply family based. Both sides present. Friend groups woven in. Bright colours filling the space. Kids running around. A friend acting as MC.
Because it was a cocktail style function, we kept things relaxed and flowing. For family photos at events like this, the easiest approach is a quick announcement from the MC early in the evening. Gather everyone while energy is high and before the dance floor gets busy. That way the formal groupings are done efficiently and everyone can get back to celebrating.
And then the party truly began.
Laughter echoed across the room. Drinks clinked. Hugs were long. It felt less like a performance and more like a reunion.
Sarah and Nick’s Valentine’s Day celebration in Brunswick VIC was proof that weddings do not have to follow a traditional formula to be powerful. Whether you marry legally first or celebrate later, what matters most is standing in front of your people and choosing each other again.
And Sarah’s tip for keeping her day affordable?
